Accuracy

Java enchantment data is extracted from the official client. Calculator formulas and Bedrock differences use the sources described below.

Data sources

  • Enchantments (max levels, anvil costs, weights, enchanting costs, conflicts, items): the enchantment files inside Mojang's official Java 26.3 client, SHA-1 e877b6a07acd633fb3bb475002175cec036e7b87.
  • Where to find them: the game's loot tables and villager trade rules, from the same file.
  • Names, textures, fonts and GUI: the same client file. The game's lettering is converted into a web font.
  • Item stats (enchantability, rarity, attack damage, armor, durability): the vanilla data generator's item report for 26.3.

Sources and corrections

Tests

  • The solver is compared with a brute-force search for five builds, using the same cost function. This checks the search, not every game rule independently.
  • Anvil costs are checked against known in-game results (single books, level merges, conflicts, Too Expensive).
  • The enchanting table maths is checked against known facts: 15 bookshelves always give a level 30 bottom button, treasure enchantments never appear, axes can't roll Sharpness, diamond swords top out at Sharpness IV.

What is not from the game files

  • Librarian book prices use the trade formula from the game code (2 + 3 × level + a random part, doubled for treasure, capped at 64). The game files only say that a trade exists.
  • Some combat formulas (smash attack, critical hits, armor) follow the game code rather than data files.
  • This site does not extract Bedrock game data. The Bedrock calculator and pages use the Java data with Bedrock's documented differences: its own anvil cost rule (only level increases are charged, clashing enchantments cost nothing), Sharpness damage, Impaling, Silk Touch on shears and the missing Sweeping Edge.

Updates

A daily check looks for new Minecraft releases and snapshots. New game files are extracted and compared, and the changes appear on the updates page.
