Can you put Silk Touch on shears?
Yes. You can put Silk Touch on shears in Bedrock 26.60.
How to add it
The surest way is to combine an enchanted book with the shears on an anvil: Silk Touch costs 4 levels on fresh shears.
/give @s shears
/enchant @s silk_touch 1What it does on shears
Bedrock's anvil accepts Silk Touch on shears. However, shears already collect leaves, vines and cobwebs as items, so it adds little for most players. Many spend the levels on Efficiency, Unbreaking and Mending instead.
Step by step
- First, get Silk Touch as an enchanted book. Sources: a librarian villager, an enchanting table (on a plain book), fishing, chest loot or trial chamber vaults.
- Then put the shears in the left slot of an anvil and the book in the right slot.
- Finally, pay the cost shown: 4 levels on fresh shears, plus any prior work penalty the shears already have.
- If the shears are getting more books, plan the order first so no step costs 40 levels or more.
Why it works
Silk Touch lists shears among its supported items. That matters because Bedrock checks a built-in list of items for each enchantment. The enchanting table never offers Silk Touch on shears, so it has to come from a book.
It conflicts with nothing else shears can take, so it fits into any shears build.
What it costs on the anvil
First, the base price: on fresh shears, Silk Touch costs 4 levels. Bedrock only charges for the levels a book adds, so small upgrades stay cheap. Each anvil use also raises the item's prior work penalty for the next step.
Order matters. Say your shears already have Efficiency V, Unbreaking III and Mending, put on in the cheapest order. That took 3 anvil uses, so adding Silk Touch last costs 11 levels: 7 for the prior work penalty plus 4 for the book. Planning everything from the start costs 21 levels in total, with no step above 7.
Plan your own version in the calculator or follow the shears enchant order. The prior work penalty calculator shows how the penalty grows.
Where Silk Touch goes
- Silk Touch goes on axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe and shears. The enchanting table offers it on the axe, pickaxe, shovel and hoe, while the shears need a book.
Commands and creative mode
With cheats on, hold the shears and run /enchant @s silk_touch 1. Bedrock's /give can't add enchantments, so /enchant is the way. The command generator writes the right syntax for your edition.
Java and Bedrock
This is a real edition difference: Bedrock lets shears take Silk Touch, Java does not. The anvil also differs: Bedrock only charges for the levels a book adds. This page follows Bedrock 26.60.
About Silk Touch
Silk Touch makes blocks drop themselves instead of their usual drop: ores, glass, ice, grass blocks, bookshelves and more. Blocks mined this way give no experience.
Silk Touch has a max level of I. If you need a book, you can get it from the enchanting table, librarian villagers, trial chamber vaults and enchanted loot from fishing and chests. Before you buy, read everything about Silk Touch, including what each level does.
What else shears can take
Besides Silk Touch, shears can take Efficiency, Unbreaking and Mending. Then the best shears enchantments page ranks them and gives the max build.
